Before you go

Sociable and late-running: lunch around 14:00 and dinner after 21:00. Spanish is official, with Catalan, Basque and Galician in their regions.

Do

Eat late and enjoy long meals
Greet with "Hola" and "Buenos días"
Keep valuables safe in busy tourist areas

Don't

Don't expect shops to open during siesta hours in smaller towns
Don't wear swimwear away from the beach
Don't call Catalans or Basques simply "Spanish" if they say otherwise
